Course Description

This capstone course will enable you to integrate and apply the theoretical concepts and knowledge and project management skills you have developed through your learning so far in this program. You will further develop and apply your project management skills and knowledge to a real world project. This course will also further develop your ability to mange time, project resources and to critically evaluate the efficacy of a project proposal.

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.

If you are enrolled in this course as a component of your Bachelor Honours Program, your overall mark will contribute to the calculation of the weighted average mark (WAM).

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Course Objectives

The objectives of this capstone course are to develop your ability to formulate a project management plan for a complex real life project. In doing so you will develop your ability to respond effectively to the needs of all relevant stakeholders; develop your capacity to work effectively as a member of a project team; and enhance your capacity to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, team members and across diverse levels of an organisation.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • CLO1: Develop a project management plan for a complex industry project
  • CLO2: Produce a project management plan which identifies and responds to the needs of relevant clients and stakeholders
  • CLO3: Critically evaluate the efficacy of a project proposal
  • CLO4: Apply effective professional communication and team work skills to achieve effective project planning
  • CLO5: Identify and critically analyse project management planning issues and impact on project planning
  • CLO6: Integrate and apply theoretical and professional knowledge to achieve effective project management planning 


Overview of Learning Activities

All students will be required to apply advanced project management theory, principles, and best practice to a designated business case and associated project to produce academically rigorous written tasks in both individual and group situations and provide a professional project presentation to key stakeholders on a designated project management topic associated with the project. 

All students will be required to apply team work and leadership concepts in a practical scenario. Students will be expected to demonstrate that they have:

  • Applied advanced project management knowledge to a project (business case),
  • Used information literacy skills to source applied project knowledge to develop creative solutions to project challenges,
  • Put in place and apply high-level communication skills,
  • Contributed to the formation of teams and participated in the team effort in producing the project outcomes, and
  • Taken on, where appropriate, a leadership role within the project development.

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.
