Course Description
Personal Wealth Management introduces you to the workings of the financial planning and wealth management industry. It provides a framework that enables the analysis of problems and the development of action plans designed to assist people to achieve their financial goals and improve their "financial health". Increasing interest in the area of financial planning and the growth in demand for financial advisory services over the past decade has led to a rapidly expanding industry.
The area of personal financial planning and wealth management encompasses many disciplines. These include investments, retirement and cash-flow planning, pension schemes, insurance, taxation, legal structures, borrowing money to invest, financial analysis and risk assessment, amongst many other areas. This course introduces you to the process of personal wealth management that brings all of these areas together in a way to meet an individual’s requirements.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
1. Identify the evolving diverse needs of individuals and contributions to society in terms of personal wealth management.
2. Critically analyse the role of insurance in personal financial management and risk protection.
3. Contextualise taxation liability and social security entitlements for a range of clients.
4. Evaluate asset management structures best suited for estate and succession planning for an individual.
5. Justify the alternative pension schemes and retirement income(s) policy choices for an individual.
6. Consolidate the contribution from Australian society to individual financial planning incorporating local, national and global circumstances.
Overview of Learning Activities
Your learning will be supported through various activities which may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; debating selected topics on discussion forums and producing written work.
• 1 hour of Asynchronous learning activity. Students can access lecture recordings and other course material.
• 2 hours synchronous classes run in real-time (Topic activity duration), with students (small groups) and instructors attending online or face-to-face at the same time.

In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
