Course Description

In this course you will explore key concepts and issues in Asian media studies through a range of case studies. You will examine mass media systems and industries in the Asian region. In particular, you will explore the relationship between Asian media systems and the broader political, economic, and social/cultural institutions of the region.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:


  • Discuss a range of media theories and their application in Asian contexts.
  • Analyse the key factors that have influenced the development of Asian media systems, both local and global.
  • Identify the nature and function of the mass media industries in the Asian region.
  • Evaluate the relationship between Asian media systems and the broader political, economic, and social/cultural institutions of the region.
