Course Description

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully work in a global business context. It will enable you to negotiate, establish and effectively manage complex contractual relationships within contemporary global supply chains. It is premised on growing complexity in supply chains, driven by the globalisation of business and the associated outsourcing of production. These developments have created an environment replete with challenges as well as opportunities for supply contract managers. Through a series of activities including literature reviews, case study analyses, classroom lectures, industry guest talks, workshops and seminars, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the different frameworks, systems and processes for contract creation and management, as well as the skills for anticipating and avoiding contractual risks.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate the impact of the growing complexity of global business on supply contract relations.
  2. Discuss and apply the contractual frameworks and theories commonly used in supply relations.
  3. Critically analyse different supply contract disputes and suggest effective resolutions.
  4. Explain and apply the basic principles of the law of contracts in the formation of supply agreements.
  5. Compare and contrast different supply contract frameworks, systems and processes between different organisations.
  6. Discuss the different types of contracts and assess their role and application

In this course you will be encouraged to actively participate in the learning process. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
