Course Description
This course focuses on how project leaders can make a positive difference to project and organisational success. Particular attention is paid to the nature of effective project management leadership in this process. The course will introduce you to specialised project management and leadership concepts which you will be able to apply to the realisation of a project. You will develop your knowledge of how leaders facilitate project success and of how leadership strategies, including stakeholder management, impact on project success. You will also develop your knowledge of the role of governance and organisational infrastructure in delivering project success, and develop your ability to lead transformations to deliver and optimise project success and outcomes.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
If you are enrolled in the MC210 Master of Project Management, in this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Determine and apply knowledge of complex project management theory, principles and best practice to applied projects to contribute to the profession and discipline of project management
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on project management theory and developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice
- Professionally communicate and justify project scope, design, implementation, strategy and /or outcomes, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders across a range of industry sectors
- Apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively address the diverse needs of project stakeholders, formulating innovative solutions and demonstrating independent and sound decision making related to your professional practice and the discipline
- Provide strategic project management advice and utilise leadership skills and team work skills to plan and guide the implementation of projects across diverse project management contexts, contributing to the discipline and professional arena

Your in-class learning activities will be supported by a mix of online leadership self-assessment tasks and readings.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment consists of:
Task 1: Shared leadership project: Identify the evidence-based characteristics and skills of an effective project leader. Lead one part of the team project. Provide constructive, developmental feedback to other team members. 30% weighting. CLOs 2, 3 & 5.
Task 2: Case presentation: Case study on project leadership. Lead one part of the team project. Provide constructive, developmental feedback to other team members. 30% weighting. CLOs1 – 5.
Task 3: Individual Reflective Report: Assess own leadership attributes and skills and create an action plan for further leadership development. 40% weighting. CLO5.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
