Course Description

The course is aimed at current and future project managers who wish to gain knowledge about how to manage technical risk and ensure projects meet performance and specification targets. Participants will learn about the techniques used to carry out project management activities that encompass areas which have traditionally been the domain of the specialist engineer. A better understanding of how to manage technical risk will enhance career opportunities through better project success rates. Project management is a fundamental activity of all projects and is key to ensuring organisational outcomes are met. Technical risk is a basic component of performance management and successful technical risk management is cricital for project success. The course provides theory and practical application of the learning outcomes.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

At the conclusion of this course you will have knowledge of project management and technical risk. Capability development is targeted towards participants gaining knowledge about technical risk and how to apply technical risk managment practices and principles within a project mangement framework. The learning outcomes are targeted towards applying knowledge in a practical environment.

At the conclusion of this course you will have learnt about project mangagement and technical risk and have an understanding of the tools used to implement project management and technical risk management  within project teams.

Overview of Learning Activities

Learning activities for this course include laboratory exercises to gain practical skills in implementing project management pracitices and carrying out technical risk management analysis.

Learning resources are provided on RMIT Online and include notes and reference material that can be used during the course.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment includes two major projects and a one hour exam. Students are required to acheive 40 per cent in all components to be considered for a pass grade.
