Course Description

In this course you will develop critical, conceptual and practical skills appropriate to create advanced design for the web. Web marketing and branding strategies will be a focus of the course, as a basis to develop your own portfolio site. You will examine the structure and administration of a content management system. You will also apply design, navigation and content strategies to develop a dynamic database-driven site. Search optimisation and data-tagging strategies will be explored and applied. Approaches to compression, storage and integration of heavy media will also be a focus.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Discuss and evaluate contemporary trends in web marketing and branding.
  • Plan and develop dynamic websites using open-source content management systems.
  • Explore and apply strategies for optimising the visibility of websites on the Internet.
  • Apply advanced skills to the integration of a diverse range of digital media within website designs.
  • Critically analyse and evaluate your designs for possible enhancements.
     


You will be assessed on your development of the following program learning outcomes in this course:

  • Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline.
  • Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in media and communication, in which to base your professional practice or future study.
