Course Description
This course examines the public relations industry, looking to its history as well as analysing contemporary practice and context. It also discusses global trends in public relations practice, and the economic, social and political factors behind them.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In completing this course, you should be able to:
- consider the history and growth of the PR industry, and how it informs current practice and the future of the industry
- determine and examine aspects of a role for public relations in the process of globalisation
- identify economic, social and political models that relate to PR
- draw links between global institutions and the role and practice of public relations
- reflect on issues relating to modern public relations practice, such ethical practice and cross-cultural communication
Overview of Learning Activities
This course will be taught in seminar mode, with a focus on interactive learning. Classes will introduce students to key concepts, that will be developed discussions and exercises in class, with some tasks to be completed outside class time.
