Course Description

This is a methods course that focuses on the principles and practices involved in the teaching of Physical Education. A variety of teaching styles and management strategies will be examined. Students will also develop their individual philosophies and values by investigating a range of appropriate skills, practices and learning models for Physical Education in secondary schools. This course will focus on the planning of classroom and curriculum materials. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to assist students to:
• Develop an appreciation of the diversity of practice in Physical Education in schools.
• Develop their knowledge of Physical Education activities.
• Teach Physical Education safely.
• Develop their philosophy in relation to teaching Physical Education.
• Use curriculum documents and relevant resources to design a course of study and plan classroom activities and materials in Physical Education.
 


Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Understand the scope of physical activity in the secondary school.
• Analyse values, ideas and issues in relation to teaching methods in Physical Education.
• Cooperate with others in planning, designing and implementing a safe and challenging Physical Education program.
• Develop their philosophy and values in teaching Physical Education.
• Demonstrate the basic skills involved in a broad range of Physical Education activities.

At the conclusion of this course, students will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following ICT capabilities:
• Understandings of the role of ICT in learning and implications for the classroom.
• Awareness of a range of contemporary ICT resources suitable for the classroom.
• Skills in using ICT for communication, presentation, work preparation and implementation.
