Course Description

In this course you will develop critical skills in the gathering, analysis, assessment and presentation of knowledge in the theory and practice of fashion design, as well as its historical, social and cultural contexts. You will acquire advanced knowledge of current research projects in fashion design. 

Through this course you will develop a proposal for a research project on a topic of your own choosing in consultation with the lecturers.

This course encourages you to operate within the context of the growing body of academic and practice-based research about diverse phenomena related to fashion. You will be bridging classic research strategies such as reflective and generative writing, as well as activities undertaken through practice to develop new perspectives about fashion.

Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Gather, analyse, assess and present knowledge gained through research, in a form appropriate to the nature of the project, including as an oral/visual presentation and a formal, written proposal

CLO 2: Formulate research questions and develop a research methodology appropriate to the project

CLO 3: Summarize, analyse and evaluate current and/or historical research in the field, in the form of a contextual review (literature review and community of practice)

CLO 4: Critically reflect upon the relationship between fashion design research and fashion design practice

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand fashion practice.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
