Course Description

In this course you will explore the ways in which globalisation is transforming educational policy and practice around the world. You will examine the ways in which social and technological change is heightening interconnection between education systems and generating large-scale flows of students, providers, educators across borders. You will consider how educators engage with indigenous, local, national and global forms of knowledge and skills.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Identify and critically analyse the ways in which globalisation is transforming educational policy and practice
  2. Analyse a range of impacts of growing cross-border flows of educational models, policies, curriculum, students and providers
  3. Identify and reflect upon the ways in which policy-makers and educators seek to reconcile competing local, national and global demands 


Overview of Learning Activities

Learning activities will include interactive workshops focusing on group-based discussion and problem solving tasks. Course learning materials will be made available in a range of formats, which may include lectures, guest speakers and visits to educational institutions. The workshops offer a supportive learning environment where you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and experiences, and to learn from the knowledge and experience your peers. This peer- based learning may take place through small-group discussions, collaborative work on activities and assessments and/or peer reviewing of research, written work and/or oral presentations.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment Tasks

  • Case study , 1000 words (30%) CLO 1 and CLO2
  • Critical reflective journal, 1000 words (20%) CLO3
  • Essay 2000 words (50%) CLO 1, CLO2 and CLO3
