Course Description

This course is designed to prepare students for a global business career in a global or American context. 

How does one prepare for the globalization juggernaut that will affect business models, the businessperson and the corporation?

These issues will be analysed and evaluated in this course.  You will be encouraged to ask very pertinent and sometime controversial questions regarding the globalization of business and global trade. 

This course provides the opportunity for you to analyse and evaluate the theory of global business change against practice by providing an offshore global intensive to the USA.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1. Develop an appreciation of cross cultural issues associated with business practice in a global business environment.
2. Create reflective practice techniques as part of developing a global mindset and global business capabilities so as to work globally.
3. Evaluate American and Australian industry input to allow for the analysis and evaluation of professional practice.
4. Organise global multi discipline collaborative teams to work effectively both onshore and offshore.
5. Evaluate the theory of globalization that will placed into practice both onshore and offshore.
6. Critically evaluate and appreciate the interconnectivity between national and global businesses around the world.

Overview of Learning Activities

The course will use a mixture of learning activities ranging from lecture and facilitator – directed learning and industry engagement in the USA. A strong focus is also given to American History and Culture both in and out of the classroom

Multidisciplinary groups will work on designing innovative business models in an American context as well as understanding the issues of globalization for global business models.

Overview of Learning Resources

Various learning resources are available online through MyRMIT/Blackboard.  In addition to topic notes; assessment details ana study schedule , you will also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings, audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your pers and to share information. Learning resource include text and reference books, articles, magazines, websites as well as access to a network of academic and industry specialists both onshore and offshore in the USA.

Resources are also available online through RMIT Library databases and other facilities.
