Course Description

You will investigate why organisations that wish to succeed in a globally connected and competitive environment, require broader perspectives and a motivation to adapt to change. In the current market place, organisations need to demonstrate the power of effective supply chains and you will consider how organisations can improve their performance.

This course identifies and analyses the effective management of all aspects of the supply chain including the extended process to craft, build and deliver a product to the consumer. This involves the adoption of an holistic approach to the management functions and operational activities across the supply chain’s ‘extended’ value chain, ensuring customers receive what they demand.

You will explore fundamental considerations required to make successful businesses out of design and manufacturing.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

a) Apply analytical decision making techniques in a fashion and textiles environment.

b) Apply sustainable practises related to fashion and textiles issues.

c) Apply logical and critical thinking in resolving a range of management issues in a fashion and textiles context.

d) Identify, research, analyse and manage emerging global issues and trends in the fashion and textiles industry.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Investigate, analyse and apply basic sustainable supply chain management principles within a fashion and textile industrial enterprise.

CLO2: Investigate and evaluate global trends and applications of information technology for value chain management.

CLO3: Compare and contrast the management of people, quality and change, between local and off shore production perspectives.

CLO4: Analyse and evaluate systems and techniques for planning and controlling the movement of goods and for maintaining stocks at desired levels.

CLO5: Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative forecasting methods, inventory systems and construct simple material planning systems such as "Just In Time" systems.

Overview of Learning Activities

The course is taught in a combination of weekly online video lectures, interactive tutorials, and classroom group discussions. You will be expected to participate in tutorial ‘workshops’ and conversations.

You will consider in all classes a current ‘real-world’ case-study to illustrate the practical implications of Supply Chain Management for a start-up fashion company. Students will be expected and encouraged to participate in on line classroom discussions, investigating relevant examples they are noticing in their life outside of university.
