Pre – requisites: ONPS 2192 Introduction to Biosciences; BIOL 2274 Limb and Trunk anatomy.


Course Description

Develops knowledge and understanding in

  1. Introduction to diagnostic radiographic positioning for chiropractors.
  2. Familiarisation with x-ray equipment; positioning terminology and exposure calculation.
  3. Surface anatomy for radiography.
  4. The production of regional radiographic views of the spinal column. This will Include cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine erect and supine.
  5. The production of regional radiographic views of the extremities. This will include both the upper and lower extremities.
  6. The production of chest, rib, abdominal, skull and sinus radiographs are taught in theory only.  
  7. A brief theory overview of CT, MRI, bone scanning and diagnostic ultrasound.
  8. The physics of radiation usage, safety and application as pertaining to chiropractors.
  9. Current legislation regarding the use of x-radiation in chiropractic practice. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

To acquire a basic physical understanding of the production of optimal radiographic images with maximum protection against the hazards of x-rays.

To develop the skills required to produce diagnostic radiographs of the spine and extremities in accordance with Victorian Department of Human Services guidelines
