Course Description

This course includes structured theoretical components based on workshops to provide you with knowledge of the essential role of preclinical testing in the drug discovery process. This course also encourages you to recognise the relationship between your academic studies and scientific research, broadening your perspective with regard to employment opportunities.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BP311):

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

Overview of Learning Activities

The course includes lecture content and interactive learning workshop sessions to provide students with a working knowledge of preclinical testing in the drug discovery process. Components of the work are designed to alert students to the vital role of scientific research in pharmacology and toxicology. You are encouraged to develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


Overview of Learning Resources

Learning resources in this course include lecture notes, workshop exercises and handouts, and references on selected topics. The online course website (Canvas Learning Management System), provides opportunities for you to independently access much of this material. You are expected to regularly access the course website, which contains announcements, course information such as detailed timetables and prescribed reading, course documents and the grade book. Overview of Assessment

Assessment activities are conducted throughout the semester so that you can review and evaluate your progress and ability to demonstrate that you adequately understand the material presented. Assessment will include both group and individual tasks.

This course has no hurdle requirements.
