Course Description
Research Thesis 2 enables the student to undertake a research project in the disability field.
The first semester (Research Thesis 1) requirements for the research project consist of a research proposal, ethics application, and budget, and a literature review.
The second semester course involves the implementation of the identified project, the collection and analysis of data, and the presentation of findings.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Students will develop capabilities in evidence-based problem solving and research skills.
Design and implement a research project using one of the common approaches to disability research (quantitative, qualitative or mixed-method approach), analyse and present findings in a format suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Overview of Learning Activities
Students learn the skills of carrying out a piece of scientific research in disability studies by directly engaging in the research process. This process has been structured so that it mimics the real-world research process as closely as possible. The research proposal is similar in format to a grant application. The literature review is modelled on a review article
Overview of Learning Resources
Students are expected to source their own literature, with guidance from their supervisor.
Students are expected to conduct their own research project, with guidance from their supervisor.
