Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Students will need to have completed a course in research methods (PHIL1000 or equivalent) prior to commencing this course.
Course Description
Students will have the opportunity to develop a small research project. They will report on the project in a paper that would be of an acceptable standard to present at a local or international academic or professional conference.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Students will develop their research skills in undertaking a research project. They will hone their presentation skills through the subsequent preparation of a conference paper and presentation.
Overview of Learning Activities
Under the supervision of a staff member from the school students will select a suitable research topic, research that topic and prepare the presentation.
Overview of Learning Resources
Text and reference material from research methods and other material specific to the topic/problem being researched. This will include library access, on line journals and data bases, document delivery services etc.

Research plan 15%
Paper 75% (4000-10,000 words)
