Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This course must be completed in the final stage of a student’s program. Students will normally be expected to have completed 96 credit points of study and be eligible for the award of the Graduate Diploma of Property or the Graduate Diploma in Valuations.  

As a minimum students will need to have completed the following courses:

  • OMGT1165 Valuation Techniques and Property Analysis
  • MKTG1140 Investment Evaluation Techniques for Real Estate
  • OMGT1179 Development Decisions
  • JUST1137 Real Estate Law


Course Description

To course provide students with an appreciation of the entire process of property development and current issues in the industry.

The course enables students tto carry out market research and exploration further develops a student’s ability to undertake complex feasibility studies with respect to proposed property projects.

Students will develop the skills and techniques necessary to analyse and evaluate property development and investment opportunities.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Develop the ability to synthesise the specific problem and development of appropriate strategies to solve it.
The identification, analysis and ranking of appropriate development and investment opportunities.
Demonstrate decision making skills based on the interpretation of broad ranging, and potentially conflicting, market intelligence.
Students will understand the role of a professional in providing impartial, practical and appropriate advice.
Implementation skills to transfer strategic decisions into practical, profitable solutions for the benefit of clients and the community.
The ability to evaluate the risks facing a proposal and advance strategies to avoid or mitigate the potential risks.

    
 


On completion of the unit students should be able to:

- Explain the decesion making process behind a project and its funding
-  Explain market research strategies and reasoning for Project implementation
- Apply the concepts of promotion and marketing of property developments
- Explain the drivers behind  viable property development


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is run as a class and it is intended to be as inter-active as possible.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and enter into discussion with the lecturer throughout the sessions.

Students will be equiped with the knowledge to apply appropriate modelling and analysis techniques to development, data and or market information to demonstrate understanding of property development conflict resolution and the financial feasibility of a project.

This course will have 3 assignment tasks, which are all industry based with real devlopment projects.
