Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
You need to have satisfactorily completed COMM2249 (TV2) or COMM2252 (Radio 2) before you commence this course. While it is not a pre-requisite, it is preferable that you have also completed COMM2251 (IM2).

Course Description

Production Project 1 (PP1) is a third year course in the professional stream of the Bachelor of Communication (Media) degree. It is designed to build on the critical, creative, technical and collaborative knowledge and skills you developed in the second year courses in Radio, Television and Integrated Media.

In PP1 the boundaries between radio, screen (film and tv) and online production are opened up, and we explore how media artefacts may be conceived, produced and distributed within a convergent media environment.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to

  1. Design and produce a media artefact with convergent elements
  2. Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary project group
  3. Investigate and analyse the convergent landscape as expressed in theory and practice
  4. Evaluate and present insights into the convergent media landscape with reference to your production experience.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to

  • Initiate, produce and evaluate media projects.
  • Communicate your ideas effectively through the creative and critical use of relevant media platforms.
  • Work collaboratively and take leadership within teams.
  • Reflect upon, direct and evaluate your own learning.

Overview of Learning Activities

Learning occurs through a dynamic mix of creative and collaborative group project activities, seminars, discussions, workshops, presentations, progress reporting, online work, peer feedback, individual critique and reflections.

Overview of Learning Resources

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.

You will make use of the wide range of film, television, radio and networked media production and post-production facilities available for students in the B. Comm. (Media). Set readings will be made available online or via the library, as applicable.

Research conducted in this course will require you to make use of a wide range of industry resources, including online information resources and audio-visual materials. The broader resources of the library and the AFI Research Collection will also be valuable for you during this course. The full course guide, assignment details and other necessary information will be available on the course Learning Hub.

You will be expected to regularly access your student email.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the courses learning outcomes and on your development against the program capabilities.

Assessment may include:

  •  Collaborative development and production of a transmedia artefact
  •  A learning report.
  •  A research task

A combination of self assessment, peer moderation and tutor assessment will be employed.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
