Course Description

This course introduces the basic ideas and theories related to the behaviour of individuals in the work situation, and includes the study of processes within work groups in the organisation. It focuses on the role of the manager, and provides the student with some insights into the techniques adopted for solving organisational problems.

Upon successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Recognise processes operating within organisations;
  2. Explain the influence the organisation has on all of its members;
  3. Articulate in a technically appropriate manner the theories and models of
      -  management, group and individual processes, motivation, leadership, communication, decision-making, innovation and change management, and conflict management;
      -  organisation structure, planning and strategic planning, control, managing human resources, the management of complex environments, and international management;
  4. Utilise skills at an appropriate level in written communication, effective group interaction, and setting of objectives in terms of organisation effectiveness.
  5. Communicate at a professional level with senior and junior staff members.

You will learn this course through pre-recorded lectures, directed reading, class room discussion, and investigative research. The learning process is reinforced through problem-based learning using case studies.
