Course Description
Communities in contemporary society have become very contested. Do they exist? What role do they serve? Why are they important? Can they exist on the Internet? In this course you will explore these issues through the making of a participatory documentary. You will investigate a community and the issues it faces, and present the resulting story using social media.

- develop a sense of the evolutionary nature of the mediascape and learn techniques for coping with this;
- reflect on the nature of a socially-engaged media practice; and
- communicate knowledge through situating practice in the context of theory and appropriate content outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- identify and evaluate links between digital literacy and networked research skills;
- design and develop your own approach to networked documentary;and
- compare and contrast creative approaches to relevant sectors of the mediascape.
