Course Description

This course is designed for the part time student, preparing for Major Project Part B (Implementation). The Major Project, comprising of the two courses Major Project Part A – Preparation and Major Project Part B – Implementation) is a major component of the Graduate Diploma (Geospatial Information) and provides students with the opportunity to develop their practical expertise and knowledge in an area of geospatial science, that is of particular interest to them. In this course you will be preparing a major project of your choice. You will be assigned an internal supervisor and it may be possible to have input or assistance from external people depending on the nature of the project. The nature of the project may include elements of research or can just be vocationally oriented or maybe a combination of both. You will be expected to complete a proposal consisting of objectives, scope, rationale and method for implementing the project in Part B.

This course contributes to the development of the following capabilities within your designated program:
• Advanced levels of independent and integrated practice.
• Intermediate levels of verbal and written communication.
At the conclusion of the course you will be able to:
1. Describe a suitable project relating to geospatial science.
2. Clearly list and describe the objectives, rationale and methods for conducting that project.
3. Be able to synthesize and critically analyse existing literature on your particular project.
4. Be able to prepare a project management plan for completing your major project.
