An appropriate performance in relevant BP041 or BP296 core courses comprising the background to the topic of the individual study.
This course is available to final year students who have approval from the course coordinator and subject to the availability of suitable projects.
Course Description
This course aims to train students for independent research or project development and implementation as well as to provide advanced studies within the student’s chosen field. You are expected to carry out a research project or a project on a specified topic area. A wide range of disciplines is available for study and includes: physical education pedagogy, health-related physical activity, exercise physiology, motor learning and control, kinesiology, resistance training and sports coaching.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for BP041 Bachelor of Applied Science (Health and Physical Education):
- Develop content knowledge and how to teach it (PLO 2)

On completion of this course you should be able to:
- Conduct a sustained program of independent work making appropriate contributions to a team in a professional manner

- Write a research document or project report, oral communication through teaching/mentoring).
- Deliver the project as planned
Overview of Learning Activities
Students carry out a sustained program of independent work under the supervision of an academic overseeing the project. Students are expected to demonstrate anl understanding of the field of study. The work carried out must make a contribution to or show a development in the application of knowledge. Personal reflection and feedback from supervisors provide a foundation for individual growth.
A weekly meeting with your supervisor and 8-10 hours of project based work for the duration of the project.
Overview of Learning Resources
Students will work closely with a supervisor who will assist with guiding the student to what learning resources they need. Good information retrieval skills are important

Completion of project in consultation with the student’s supervisor. This may be in the form of a written report/manuscript or the equivalent and will be specific to the project.
