Course Description
The course explores the theory and practice behind planned internal communication activities in contemporary organisations. This includes communication directed toward employees, membership networks and other groups in which both the disseminators and recipients of communication can be seen as part of a shared interest group. The course gives particular emphasis to internal communication activities directed toward addressing processes of organisational, technological, industrial, ownership or other types of major change.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course, you will develop the following capabilities:
- professional writing and presentation skills
- ability to relate ethical standards to public relations practice
- ability to analyse and discuss global context of public relations practice
- problem solving and analytical skills
- ability to research plan implement and evaluate public relations project
- project management and teamwork skills
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- integrate the key external and internal organisational drivers of change and its effects on the internal communication practice and practitioner.
- analyse, critically consider and creatively plan a communication strategy (and tactics) considering the various constructs discussed in an organisation and its environment, to facilitate change
- analyse, debate and present current issues demonstrating theoretical knowledge and insight.
Overview of Learning Activities
The course will take a face to face approach in its delivery with a range of learning activities that include lectures, tutorials, group and class discussion and group activities. You will gain most of the core course concepts through practical work and material provided in the lectures and seminars

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s leaning outcomes and on our development against the program capabilities. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. Assessment may include a test, a group project involving research articles; and a communication program.
Assessment will occur during the course and at the end of the course.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
