This course is fully online. You will need access to the internet, the ability to work online via myRMIT Studies, to organise your time, work online with others in small groups, and submit work by due dates.
Course Description
You will gain an overview of mindbody modalities and their application in enhancing wellbeing. Topics include: the mindbody connection and how it functions in the body; mindbody wellness and stress; mindbody modalities including imagery, meditation, intuition and biofeedback; the power of intention and love in mindbody wellness; how mindbody modalities affect cellular health and how they may prevent illness; the practice of mindbody wellness in daily life; critical evaluation of mindbody literature and professional and ethical issues in mindbody wellness practice.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Graduates who complete Mindbody Wellness will be able to apply a basic knowledge of mindbody modalities to enhance wellbeing personally and in community settings.
On successful completion of the course, you should be able to:
- Discuss mindbody wellness from a historical and contemporary perspective
- Describe the physiology of the mindbody connection and the stress response
- Describe and explain the therapeutic effects and safety issues relevant to mindbody wellness practice
- Describe and explain how to practice a selected range of mindbody modalities
- Practice a range of mindbody wellness modalities
- Describe the role of intention, love and altruism in mindbody wellness
- Explain how mindbody wellness modalities can be applied in daily life and their role in prevention of illness
- Adapt knowldege and skills of MindBody Wellness to a range of diverse settings
- Critically evaluate mindbody wellness literature and the effectiveness of mindbody wellness modalities in specific health challenges
- Describe and explain professional and ethical issues in mindbody wellness practice.
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities include:
- Working through the course, activities and study questions presented in the online learning package
- Prescribed reading
- Online discussion forums and small group work
- Personal practice of mindbody techniques
- Keeping a reflective journal
- Searching for and evaluating literature relevant to mindbody wellness
Overview of Learning Resources
Students will be able to access course information and learning materials through myRMIT Studies. Lists of relevant reference texts, resources in the library and freely accessible Internet sites
will be provided.
Overview of Assessment
The assessment for this course is designed to test both theoretical and practical knowledge of mindbody wellness modalities. It is a combination of written assignments, participation in online forums, and a mindbody wellness journal.
To help students meet the assessment requirements your progress will be monitored throughout the course. The interactive online and group activities will provide opportunities for self-assessment and feedback from staff and/or students on a regular basis.
