Course Description

This course will introduce you to property and the capital markets. It will focus on the role of the property in the wider economy from an investment perspective. In this course you will learn about the activities of the various property stakeholders, the different property types and the range of property investments instruments ie property trusts.
This course will provide you with a balanced blend of theory and practical examples and will cover:
• Reasons for investing in property
• Property stakeholders types and roles
• Introduction to the capital markets (investment and finance sectors of the economy)
• Overview of property investment options
• Financing of property (equity and debt)

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes

  • PLO1: Determine and apply knowledge of complex property and valuation theory to your professional practice and/or further study
  • PLO3: Apply logical, critical and creative thinking to analyse, synthesise and apply theoretical knowledge, and technical skills, to formulate evidenced based solutions to industry problems or issues

 


Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. CLO1: Demonstrate your understanding of the rationale for property investment
  2. CLO2: Critically appraise property sectors and investment products, and evaluatie property decision making
  3. CLO3: Recognise and assess how the different property stakeholders interact
  4. CLO4: Evaluate the impact of equity and debt on the property investment market, both globally and locally
