Course Description
This course will introduce you to the Australian legal system and the different sources of legislation organisations reference and adhere to in their business operations. You will undertake research and learn how to analyse and apply legal principles in a business environment.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the structures and sources of law in Australia in order to apply the appropriate legislation or precedent to business case studies.
- Explain and analyse the law of contract, tort and consumer protection in the business environment to determine the impact on a business of failing to apply the appropriate legal principles.
- Work in groups to research and analyse legal problems and effectively communicate a range of potential solutions.
- Apply a range of technology skills to undertake effective research into current legal issues.

Your learning experience will include face-to- face teaching, in class discussions, group work, and individual problem solving exercises and out of class research.

A text book will also be recommended.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will include a folio of exercises, research assignment and open book exam.
- Task 1: Folio of Exercises (CLO 1, 3 and 4) – 20%
- Task 2: Research Assignment (CLO 1, 3, and 4)- 40%
- Task 3: Final Exam (CLO 1, 2, 3 and 4)- 40%
