You should have satisfactorily completed LANG1073 Chinese 6 or equivalent before you commence this course.
Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.
If you are an international student from China, you can take this course without prerequisites.

Course Description
This course enhances your advanced Chinese language skills through oral and written communication, public presentation, drama composition and performance. Drama will be used as a context for you to critically reflect on contemporary Chinese culture, society, and language use. You will consider the relationships between behaviour, language and literature in a range of dramatic works.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course will complement the RMIT capabilities you are developing in your program.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyse a wide range of Chinese classical and modern literary works and performing arts, using appropriate vocabulary and expressions of Chinese language
- Demonstrate your understanding of Chinese history and its societal developments after the establishment of People’s Republic of China in 1949
- Conduct research into Chinese cultural values and literary genres, and contrast with other cultures and literature works
Overview of Learning Activities
You will engage in a range of activities including analysing Chinese dramas and movies, participating in independent research.
Classes are conducted in seminars. You will be able to improve your language and research skills by regularly participating in a range of exercises including oral presentation and essay-writin

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. This course requires you to develop a profound understanding of Chinese social and cultural developments and you will be asked to demonstrate your understanding through oral and written assessment tasks.
Assessment Tasks
Task 1: In-class essay writing on given topics, 1000 Chinese characters, 30%, CLO1.
Task 2: Presentation on given text/theatrical drama, 20 minutes, 10%, CLO2 and CLO3.
Task 3: Final essay, 2000 Chinese characters, 40%, CLO1, CLO2, and CLO3.
Task 4: Class discussion, quizzes and homework, 20%, CLO1 and CLO2.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
