Course Description

In this course you will experiment with photographic image creation principles and practices to communicate effectively.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to examine and establish professional image capture workflows. You will develop skills in camera craft, light, composition, visual literacy and digital image enhancement using manual controls. 

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon completion of this course you will have an understanding of the aesthetics and processes of contemporary photographic practice enabling you to capture a broad range of subject matter with control, accuracy and creativity.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyse and discuss how images communicate meaning.
  • Apply photographic principles to create images that communicate effectively.
  • Select and effectively use photographic tools and image editing software.

The course will be presented through a variety of activities including lectures, workshops, experimentation, critical analysis, discussion, practice, presentation and reflection.

You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment Task 1: Quiz, 10% LO2

Assessment Task 2: Assignment, 40% LO1, LO2, LO3

Assessment Task 3: Assignment, 50% LO1, LO2, LO3

Assessment may include creative photographic projects, reflective papers, quizzes and presentations. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
