Course Description

Games Design Studio 3 is an intermediate course in game design and development that builds on previous experience and moves into more complex creative problems and environments. You will be presented with a broader range of skills and tools than in Game Design Studio 1+2.

The course is framed around increasing your use of peer review, design critique and creative goal-setting in order to make produce creatively satisfying outcomes.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:  

  • Apply game art and game design production methods, in both individual and group capacities, to solve creatively generated problems.
  • Develop a technical and conceptual portfolio relevant to game art and design and other forms of interactive entertainment.
  • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the creative challenges implicit in building virtual, playable environments.
  2. Compare game spaces to historical and virtual spaces in other media.
  3. Build virtual environments and spaces for creative and expressive purposes.
  4. Respond creatively to game thematics, proposing and designing game elements in concert with others.
  5. Analyse your own and others’ work using frameworks from associated design and art disciplines.
