Course Description
In this course you will examine the design, mechanics, narratives and characters of contemporary video games as a distinct medium, and in relation to prior forms of art and entertainment.
Emphasis will be placed on the development of creative skills specifically in relation to game design and the place of games within broader culture.

Program Learning Outcomes
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Critically analyse how games and play have specific local and global contexts.
- Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in and around game art and design.
- Communicate using diverse formats and strategies to audiences within and external to game art and design.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Analyse the historical nature games, leisure and play.
2. Describe and evaluate how play and games intersect with social structures.
3. Investigate social and cultural dynamics through and around games, play and leisure.
4. Develop game prototypes that demonstrateDemonstrate how games explore and impact social and cultural dynamics.
