Course Description

Creative Writing Specialisation furthers and challenges your creative writing practice through a deeper engagement with your chosen writing forms. You will interrogate these forms of creative writing through the lens of ideas, themes and immersive practice. You will examine histories and contexts of your selected forms, which might include fiction, nonfiction, poetry or screenwriting, in order to enrich your understanding of their definitions, possibilities and limits, as well as uncovering opportunities for experimentation and play. You will be encouraged to step outside your comfort zone to challenge the extent of your own practice.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Create, develop and produce new creative writing to reflect intention and ideas within a range of theoretical frameworks and contexts relevant to a variety of media and genres.
  • Critically read and analyse a range of theoretical, historical, cultural and contemporary texts in order to inform and develop your professional practice.
  • Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline of creative writing.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Interrogate the histories and contexts of different writing forms.
  • Reflect on your practice in your chosen writing forms.
  • Apply specialist skills in your chosen areas of creative writing.
  • Produce a range of creative works related to your chosen writing forms.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include essays, reports, reflective papers, creative projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning.
