Course Description
In this course you work individually and collaboratively in interdisciplinary contexts to research, develop and produce a professional communication project within a studio-based model. You will expand and enhance your creative, critical, technical and reflective skills in professional communication according to your areas of specialisation. Your learning is enabled through engaging in problem-based tasks which reflect current debates within the media and communication industries globally.
This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for BP222/BP222ACC/BP222OSVI Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication). This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically discuss and apply theories and frameworks relevant to global professional communication practice.
- Critically analyse and evaluate your area or areas of professional specialisation.
- Apply advanced level skills in your area or areas of professional specialisation.
- Identify, evaluate and apply strategies and skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Design and produce professional communication projects at an advanced level.
- Critically reflect upon and apply feedback to your own and others’ work.
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Critically analyse and apply a diverse and industry-relevant body of knowledge and skills to the field of media and communications in a global context.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on professional communication in both local and international contexts.
- Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the professional communication field.
- Communicate using diverse formats and strategies to audiences within and external to your discipline.
- Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.
- Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include essays, reports, reflective papers, creative projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning.
