In this course, you will examine and interrogate the established conventions of media production, and the techniques that support them. You will explore a range of contextual issues surrounding the media industries that support sound and image.
You will work on a variety of small collaborative projects and activities across a number of media forms including audio and video. These projects and activities are designed to develop your technical skill, ability to critique aesthetic components, and theoretical understanding of media production and forms, especially in collaborative media production contexts and for diverse audiences.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the practices and techniques of professional media production.
- Work collaboratively to plan and produce media projects.
- Critically reflect on your own work to demonstrate autonomy, good judgment and ethical responsibility.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically analyse professional media production in terms of aesthetics, communication and technology.
- Assess media forms in terms of process, production mode and aesthetics.
- Create and produce stills, audio and video production projects.
- Collaborate on media projects for diverse audiences.
- Reflect upon and evaluate your own project work.

You will be engaged in a range of face to face and online activities such as lectures, tutorials, group and class discussion, studios, group activities and individual research.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment may include reports, projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
