Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

Assumed knowledge: Design principles through the Design Thinking for Business (BUSM4534/BUSM4535 or equivalent course code) course. Knowledge such as marketing and finance are useful when conducting a consulting report for a business client.


Course Description

The course will provide you as entry level managers with the knowledge, digital skills and ethics to manage business operations in an internationally competitive environment. You will be introduced to key business operations concepts and undertake the functional roles of business operations managers in a digital sensor simulation. In addition, you are provided with lectures on contemporary business operations issues such as manufacturing, occupational health and safety (OH&S), project management, supply chain logistics and contracting.  You will also develop your own future of work strategy for the next 5 years.

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Create a business operations strategy that recognises the limited nature of organisational resources and the competitive international environment.
  2. Research and apply solutions to contemporary business operations issues such as manufacturing, occupational health and safety (OH&S), and contracting.
  3. Apply ethical decision making in managing the business operations of a company
  4. Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication
  5. develop your own future of work strategy.

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
