Course Description
This course examines areas of Intellectual Property (IP) law, including, trademarks, designs, patents, copyright, and passing off. It introduces and examines the rationale for the existence of an IP regime and its importance to the knowledge economy. You will gain knowledge and skills by studying each area in detail with emphasis placed on strategic management of business IP assets, as well as on design. The operation of Australian IP law is examined in the context of the international IP framework.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- CLO1: Apply the principles that underscore the various IP regimes to determine function of IP law in the innovation cycle.
- CLO2: Communicate the essential meanings of the provisions of the statutes and cases as they relate to the national and international legal framework.
- CLO3: Research relevant IP databases and materials and apply the law to produce satisfactory responses to practical questions posed.
- CLO4: Critique the law of intellectual property and provide reform options.
