Course Description
Wicked problems are complicated, interconnected social issues, like poverty, political instability, sustainability and wellbeing. Solutions to wicked problems require innovation and multidisciplinarity. In this course industry partners pose real world problems. Working with an industry brief and a multidisciplinary team you will scope the problem and generate solutions that are people centred.
This elective will give you the opportunity to experience the real world application of your discipline and make a difference to the community. You will experience different professions working together to achieve a common goal.
To be successful in the course, you will bring your enthusiasm, interest in working with a diverse group of students and an interest in developing professional skills and knowledge.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course will complement the learning outcomes you are developing in your program.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and discuss different professional perspectives and approaches across project disciplines.
- Explain and apply principles and strategies for working in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Apply the knowledge and skills of your discipline within multidisciplinary teams.
- Critically reflect on and discuss your role in projects, the process of working in multidisciplinary teams and the impact on your future practice.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will be involved in a range of learning activities centred around the development and completion of collaborative projects. The learning activities may include seminars, presentations, guest speakers, workshops, design thinking sessions, individual and group based reflection, receiving and providing feedback.
The success of the project will depend on your regular contributions in classes and collaborative group meetings where you will report and reflect upon individual and group progress on a regular basis, provide and receive constructive evaluation and engage in discussion of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary issues.

- Assessment 1: Individual Learning Contract 20% CLO 1, 2
- Assessment 2: Multidisciplinary Team Presentation 50% CLO 1, 2, 3
- Assessment 3: Employment Pitch (applying your learning) 30% CLO 4
