COMM2819 Staging and Direction
All year one technical studio courses (pre-requisite)

and COMM2827 Line and Production Management before you commence this course.
Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.

Course Description
In this course you will apply skills and knowledge in digital film- and video-making to produce an online series for distribution via a content sharing portal. Working individually and in groups, you will take various technical and creative roles throughout the pre-production, production and post-production phases of the project. You will critically analyse and evaluate your own and others' work in relation to contemporary creative and critical approaches as well as international best practices.

Program Learning Outcomes
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
PLO3: Develop narratives and screenplays and achive storylling outcomes for digital film and video
PLO4: Select and use contemporary tools, methods and approaches to envision, develop and produce digital film and video work
PLO5: Communicate with a range of stakeholders to plan, organise, execute and evaluate team-based and self-managed digital film and video projects
PLO6: Apply critical and creative thinking skills and use self-reflection to develop ethical and professional capabilities
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
CLO1: Research and evaluate contemporary theory and practices of episodic content.
CLO2: Apply appropriate critical, reflective and creative analysis and research approaches to a creative brief for online episodic content.
CLO3: Use creative production processes to develop and deliver online episodic content.
Overview of Learning Activities
In this course you will engage in practice-based collaborative and individual work to develop and produce an online series. This will require you to take on various roles and functions in the development and production process, and to engage in group critique and evaluation of these processes.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will have access to technical resources such as camera, lighting, sound recording equipment and editing tools, as well as studio-based learning spaces. You will be provided with diverse learning and teaching resources, including web-based resources, library collections, and online learning content. You will also be provided with a range of educational support services, including peer-led academic mentoring, tutorials, and internship and mobility support services.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course Learning Outcomes and on your development against the Program Learning Outcomes.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Initial response presentation (individual) - 10%. Addresses CLO 1.
Assessment Task 2: Milestone presentation (group) - 20%. Addresses CLO 2.
Assessment Task 3: Final project presentation (group) - 40%. Addresses CLOs 2 & ,3.
Assessment Task 4: Critical reflection and analysis (individual) - 30%. Addresses CLO 2.
