Course Description
In this course you will learn how to use editing and colour grading techniques and methods to convey meaning and narrative and enhance storytelling. You will analyse a range of film and video sequences to identify multiple editing approaches. You will learn to identify and apply different types of editing and colour grading and through studio-based exercises you will familiarise yourself with standard editing workflows and the key stages of moving raw footage through rough-cut, fine cut, dialogue and sound matching, mixing and final mastering stages. Through a range of applied exercises you will apply this knowledge in order to achieve different storytelling outcomes.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

CLO3: Apply editing tools and techniques to convey meaning and narrative.
Overview of Learning Activities
In this course you will engage in studio-based work to acquire and apply technical practices of editing and grading to achieve digital storytelling outcomes. This will involve demonstrated use of relevant technologies and application of technique in guided exercises and tasks relevant to the co-requisite course.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will have access to technical resources such as camera, lighting, sound recording equipment and editing tools, as well as studio-based learning spaces. You will be provided with diverse learning and teaching resources, including web-based resources, library collections, and online learning content. You will also be provided with a range of educational support services, including peer-led academic mentoring, tutorials, and internship and mobility support services.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course Learning Outcomes and on your development against the Program Learning Outcomes.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Interview scene edit,, 25%, Addresses CLO 1.
Assessment Task 2: Sequence edit, 25%, Addresses CLO 2.
Assessment Task 3: Sequence colour grading, 50%, Addresses CLO 3.
