Course Description
This course will introduce the principles, practice and/or application of colour theory, image capture, sequence creation and lighting design. You will learn colour theory and the application of colour temperature and the colour wheel. You will capture images using a range of stills and moving image cameras and lenses, including sequences using cameras in motion. You will study lighting design for both studio and external locations including selection of different appliances, sources and accessories. Through a range of applied exercises you will apply this knowledge in order to achieve different storytelling outcomes.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
PLO3: Develop narratives and screenplays and achieve storytelling outcomes for digital film and video
PLO4: Select and use contemporary tools, methods and approaches to envision, develop and produce digital film and video work
PLO5: Communicate with a range of stakeholders to plan, organise, execute and evaluate team-based and self-managed digital film and video projects
PLO6: Apply critical and creative thinking skills and use self-reflection to develop ethical and professional capabilities
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:
CLO1: Describe and apply colour theory and camera and lighting principles.
CLO2: Execute fundamental procedures for image capture and sequence creation.
CLO3: Use a single camera and lighting system to achieve storytelling outcomes.
Overview of Learning Activities
In this course you will engage in studio-based work to acquire and apply basic technical practices of camera and lighting to support and convey screenplay. This will involve demonstrated use of relevant technologies and application of technique in guided exercises and tasks relevant to the co-requisite course
Overview of Learning Resources
You will have access to technical resources such as camera, lighting, sound recording equipment and editing tools, as well as studio-based learning spaces. You will be provided with diverse learning and teaching resources, including web-based resources, library collections, and online learning content. You will also be provided with a range of educational support services, including peer-led academic mentoring, tutorials, and internship and mobility support services.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Moving sequence staging (50%) CLOs 1 & 2
Assessment Task 2: Moving sequence analysis (50%) CLOs 2 & 3
