Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
In this course you will engage in and explore conceptual and technical methods applicable to the design of woven textiles. You will learn about design composition, colour, materials and yarns, weave structures and drafts, notation and language and finishing processes specific to woven textiles. Through material play and iterative ideation you will develop woven textile design concepts, fabric outcomes, and support materials to communicate your concepts. You will also gain an overview of contemporary, cultural and historical perspectives of hand and industrial weaving practices to inform your design direction.

As this is a program option course, only Course Learning Outcomes are applicable.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Identify and discuss contemporary, cultural and historical examples of woven textile design.
CLO2: Demonstrate skills and knowledge in composition, colour, texture, materials and yarns, weave drafts and pattern, and notation and specifications appropriate to woven textiles.
CLO3: Create woven textile design concepts.
Overview of Learning Activities
Classes will be delivered using a blended learning model. Your learning will be facilitated via a range of on-line and in-class activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
Assessment Task 1: Digital Weave Library (10%)
Assessment Task 2: Folio of Weave Experimentation (40%)
