Course Description

In this course you will engage in and explore conceptual and technical methods applicable to the design of screen printed textiles. You will learn about design composition, colour, motif and repeat, screen preparation and printing, language, fabrics and finishing processes specific to screen printed textiles.

Through design play and iterative ideation you will develop concepts for screen printed textiles and support materials to communicate your concepts. You will also gain an overview of contemporary, cultural and historical perspectives of hand and industrial screen printing practices to inform your design direction.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

As this is a program option course, only Course Learning Outcomes are applicable.


Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Identify and discuss contemporary, cultural and historical examples of screen printed textile design. 

CLO2: Demonstrate skills and knowledge in design composition, colour, motif and repeat, screen preparation, language, and finishing processes specific to screen printed textiles.

CLO3: Create design concepts for screen printed textiles.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome.  They are as follows:
