Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Required Prior Study
Successful completion of GRAP2888 Advanced Fashion Design Strategies. Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.
Required Concurrent Study
Undertake GRAP2891 Masters Fashion Presentation and Folio at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice. Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.
Course Description
In this course you will work in industry on a placement/internship to advance your industry practice and create and pitch a design project that engages with this industry context. The placement will be conducted face to face at a local, interstate, or international workplace. You will demonstrate advanced fashion design practice knowledge through synthesising your industry experience and designing in response to this. You will relate the design strategies, techniques, materials and expressions you use to this industry experience.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
PLO 3: Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating independent expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice in broader fashion systems

Course Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Identify your practice relationships to emerging job markets and industry practices
CLO2: Propose, plan, develop and contribute projects for industry partners in responding to their objectives and working collaboratively
CLO3: Establish professional communication and interpersonal skills related to collaboration and establishing contacts for professional industry practice
CLO4: Undertake fashion and design materials research by developing your project responding to industry needs that arise in your placement
CLO5: Develop design responses through visual mediums for the expression of fashion design directly related to industry contexts
CLO6: Demonstrate, through oral/visual presentations and/or written responses, awareness of the relationship between fashion design practice and research, as well as the social and cultural context of design
Overview of Learning Activities
The course format is based on a self-directed and Work Integrated Learning model. Your performance in the placement or internship will be reviewed midway through the course against professional standards and requirements of practice.
Your design response project from the placement intends to show documentation and reflection of your experience working with industry. The production of this project may include a variety of design outcomes to aptly express your fashion design practice and its relationship to industry.
There will be a combination of milestones and meetings that you will have to meet with your supervisor throughout the course. You will organise and manage your own placement or project in consultation with your supervisor. Your supervisor acts as facilitator, helping to guide you with appropriate resources and advice.
For a placement a specific time commitment of no fewer than 60 hours at an approved workplace is required. This may be undertaken as either a regular commitment throughout the semester or negotiated as a full-time intensive experience, provided such an arrangement does not impinge on your participation in other program commitments.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the courses learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
Assessment Task 1: Placement Pitch - Digital submission of preliminary research of and communication with industry partner 20% CLOs: 1 & 3
Assessment Task 2: Mid Placement Review - Interview and report 10% CLOs: 6
Assessment Task 3: Placement Project Response - Project presentation and panel showing 50% CLOs: 2, 4, 5 & 6
Assessment Task 4: Practice Communication - Hard copy hand in and digital submission of communication material pitching your practice to industry 20% CLOs: 1 & 6
