Course Description

This course is tailor-designed for industry. The course aims to provide you with the required aviation theoretical knowledge for the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) assessments as detailed in the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Manual of Standards (MOS). 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Identify and analyse the privileges, limitations and medical requirements of student for Recreational Pilot Licence. 
  2. Interpret the Civil Aviation Safety Standard (CASA) and Australian government aviation rules, regulations and instructions relating to pre, during, and post flight pilot actions that related to Australian Air Law. 
  3. Define the key terminology and abbreviations in the field of aviation.  
  4. Identify the components of Aircraft Engines, and their controls and functions.  
  5. Develop an understanding of other vital aircraft systems including fuel, oil, ignition, Electrical, braking and flight instrumentation.  
  6. Compare the different types of drag and the effects of speed and weight. 
  7. Identify weather phenomena that can be hazardous to aviation.  
  8. Develop the ability to identify cloud types and the associated weather.
 


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course, you will learn through the following activities: 

  • Attendance to online lectures where syllabus material will be presented and explained. 
  • Completion of online activities consisting of numerical calculations and other factors requiring an integrated understanding of the subject matter 
  • Self-study, working through the course as presented online, information gathered from practical demonstrations and learning materials. 
 


Overview of Learning Resources

You will be required to use CASA and other texts and as well as receiving online materials. Videos, practical demonstrations and discussions online will enhance your learning.
