Course Description

In this course you will develop your personal capabilities in ways that will help you to succeed in business contexts. You will develop your understanding of how business works in practical terms and develop the technical and behavioural competencies to thrive in organisational settings. This course explores: organisational context; business structures; business psychology; and the development of business capabilities. This includes: setting, measuring progress toward, and achieving goals; identifying what needs to be done and how to take action; incorporating diverse perspectives for problem-solving; identifying opportunities; strategies for identifying and overcoming blockers and hurdles.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Identify and assess the factors impacting businesses from various perspectives.
  2. Consider the implications of technological and social changes to how we do business.
  3. Apply strategies for goal setting, measuring progress and evaluating process outcomes.
  4. Identify problem-solving approaches and incorporate diverse perspectives when developing ideas and solutions.
  5. Undertake reflective praxis regarding your personal development of the organisational understandings and behavioural capabilities required of a professional in business contexts.  


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is delivered as a blend of face-to-face activities and online learning. Learning will be supported through in-class and online activities such as: personal development activities; guest speakers/expert commentators; prescribed readings; practical tasks; seeking and providing peer feedback; and reflective praxis.
