Open innovation has become the new imperative for the 21st Century and is considered as one of the main paradigms in innovation management. Various companies worldwide have already championed open innovation principles by integrating it with the strategy.
This course will equip you with contemporary knowledge and understanding of open innovation (i.e., how to successfully manage and leverage external knowledge through various mechanisms, including crowdsourcing, corporate- start up collaboration, value networks, partnerships & ecosystems, and create sustainable business models). It will also provide you with the skills and tools necessary to create and manage strategies for open innovation by exploring best practice studies on open innovation in various industries and perspectives, various tools to integrate external knowledge and cross-industry innovation, opportunities and challenges when strategically implementing open innovation.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Apply broad theoretical, technical and practical knowledge of open innovation and its impact on contemporary business environments.
CLO2: Evaluate and present information on the different modes of open innovation (inbound, outbound and coupled) in various business contexts.
CLO3: Critically analyse open innovation activities in authentic contexts and provide advice on effective implementation including the motives, opportunities and challenges for engaging in collaborative innovation, and mechanisms through which they create value for different stakeholders.
CLO4: Critically reflect on your progress in developing open innovation mindset and ability to work in cross-cultural, inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary collaborative teams and projects.

These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
