As a capstone course, this course will bring together and build upon skills and knowledge you have acquired earlier in your degree. You need to have completed second year courses in your Program extended majors.


Course Description

This capstone course will develop your capabilities for future employment in the biomedical sciences sector. You will develop key skills that are required for safe, ethical, and competent professional practice. You will undertake a team-based or individual project that will develop your ability to critically analyse and use data from a variety of sources and communicate scientific information to different audiences.

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.

This course provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Compile a portfolio of evidence that showcases your education, experience and skills in a biomedical setting.
  2. Critically reflect on your experience and work practice that demonstrates cultural intelligence and safety and identifies future professional development opportunities.
  3. Critically review and demonstrate application of the regulatory frameworks that informs ethical and safe conduct.
  4. Find, evaluate, critically analyse and reference relevant specialist scientific literature and data sources in a biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences setting.
  5. Effectively communicate scientific information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.


Overview of Learning Activities

The course includes interactive learning workshop sessions. Components of the work are designed to alert and assist students to the importance of preparation and practice for future employment.

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through RMIT Student Website.
