Course Description
This course is identified by RMIT University as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which knowledge and skills will be practiced within the university simulated health environment, applied and assessed in a clinical workplace context, as feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your professional experiences.
This course will provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge taught in other year 1 nursing and foundation courses at a beginning professional practice level. Students will undertake health assessments, identify normal and abnormal findings in review of health systems and develop clinical reasoning skills in context to the provision of person-centred care. During clinical placement, students will build upon knowledge of health assessment, safe practice, infection control, manual handling and risk mitigation. Students will also observe the roles of other members of the health care team and consider how the values of the family and culture are met within the healthcare setting.
An assessment requirement for this course requires students to complete clinical placement within a healthcare setting. To be eligible to undertake clinical placement, students must meet certain mandated documentation and immunisation requirements. For specific details surrounding Professional Placement Passport requirements, please refer to the Bachelor of Nursing - Professional Placement Passport
