Course Description

The purpose of Digital Communication professional practice course is to provide you with the experience of working in digital communication practice either through an internship or by doing an industry focused project. 

The course aims to provide you with an opportunity to engage with the opportunity to engage with an internship or project experience.:  

By undertaking an internship or industry focused project, you will develop important digital communication skills for your post-graduation employment, making you work-ready, flexible and adaptable.   

Your experience will be supported by learning activities designed to help you critically reflect on your professional practice  

If you chose an internship it will run between 80-120 hours and can be with either a local or international employer.  

This is a designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for the Digital communication major. This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.

Program Learning Outcomes 

This course contributes to the following BP354 Bachelor of Professional Communication Program Learning Outcomes: 

  • PLO2: Collaborate respectfully with diverse stakeholders, both locally and globally, to problem solve within and across a range of professional contexts  
  • PLO6: Employ intellectual independence and judgement to engage critically with information, make sound evidence-based decisions, actively challenge assumptions, and undertake research that is ethical, creative and reflective

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Critically analyse where your skills and capabilities intersect with the needs of industry.  
  2. Apply and practice professional communication skills in a variety of professional and/or cultural contexts.  
  3. Engage with diverse workplace environments by applying your digital communication and  professional skills and knowledge 
  4. Critically reflect and evaluate where your internship experiences might lead you professionally, for future employment.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment may include essays, reports, reflective papers, creative projects and you will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. You will need to demonstrate a basic understanding of the range of research methods available for developing public relations strategies. 

Assessment Tasks  

Assessment Task 1:Industry profile, 35%, CLO1, CLO2 and CLO4   
Assessment Task 2:Professional practice project, 40%, CLO1, CLO2 and CLO3   
Assessment Task 3: Reflection and career application, 25%, CLO1 and CLO2   

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
