This is an applied clinical therapeutics course, building on previous physiology, pharmacology and therapeutics courses.
This course will integrate and extend on the pathophysiology of these systems and the pharmacology of agents acting on these systems, with a focus on the contemporary role of a pharmacist in the prevention and management of relevant diseases such as skin conditions, gastrointestional and liver diseases, as well as use of analgesics and anti-infectives.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Program Learning Outcomes
This course contributes to the program learning outcomes for the following programs:

Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology, clinical presentation and diagnosis of dermatological, gastrointestinal and infectious diseases and pain syndromes and in relation to anatomy and physiology of the systems.
- Develop an appropriate pharmaceutical care plan, including the selection, monitoring and quality use of medicines for patients with dermatological, gastrointestinal and infectious diseases and pain syndromes, including managing the adverse drug reactions
- Develop a refined and improved pharmaceutical care plan, using patient specific parameters, such as organ dysfunction, concurrent diseases and drugs and laboratory and clinical tests in patients with dermatological, gastrointestinal and infectious diseases and pain syndromes
- Communicate relevant information clearly and directly to patients, caregivers and health professionals in a simulated clinical environment demonstrating integrity, inclusivity and cultural safety.
- Demonstrate reflective practice to appraise own learning needs for the development of sound medication management advice in a simulated environment.
